Lead-Based Paint

Lead in paint, and its contamination of interior dust and exterior soil, is the primary cause of childhood lead poisoning.  Using a portable X-Ray Fluorescent (XRF) analyzer, EnviroPlan conducts comprehensive lead-based paint inspections, identifying in a systematic manner, the location of toxic levels of lead in a facility. In addition, we assess the condition of any lead-based paint detected to determine in a risk assessment if it meets the definition of hazardous and requires correction.  Lead in dust, soil and drinking water sampling round out our risk assessment tools.  We are capable of developing lead abatement plans, hazard correction plans and in place management plans which meet local, state and federal requirements. After lead abatement, hazard correction or renovation and maintenance activities are complete, we provide clearance inspections to ascertain if the facility is safe to re-occupy.

Once the project obtains clearance, we can write a Lead Management Plan to manage in place the remaining lead based paint in the facility which is either intact and, therefore, "lead safe" or if abatement has been performed by either enclosure or encapsulation (leaving the lead based paint in the facility, under the enclosure or encapsulant), provide for periodic inspections of the areas where lead based paint remains to verify that it is in a "lead safe" condition. The plan also provides several work practices to correct any deteriorated lead based paint which has now become a "lead hazard".
